Choosing the right plan for your directory listing

Picking a plan is one of the first decisions you make when you list your practice in our law firms directory, and it is worth getting right. The decision is simpler than it looks. The plans control how your profile is presented and how prominently it appears, not whether your firm is trusted. Trust on this directory is earned through evidence, not purchased. This guide walks through every plan, what each one includes, the optional News add-on, and which type of firm tends to fit which plan. Underneath all of it sits one honesty principle: paying more never buys you verification badges.

The three plans at a glance

Every firm in this online law firms directory starts from the same place: a listing that real people and search engines can find. From there, you choose how much of your story you want to tell and how much standing you want in the listing order. There are three plans. All prices are set in US dollars and managed by our team, so the exact figures below reflect current pricing and may be adjusted over time.

Verified Basic ($99 per year)

The Basic plan is an affordable annual listing. It puts your firm in the directory, it can be claimed by your firm so you control the information, and it can still earn individual verification checks. That last point surprises some people: even on the entry tier, your firm can submit evidence and have an editor approve checks one by one, so a Basic listing can carry real, verified trust signals. What Basic does not include is the richer published profile, the ability to buy News items, or a dofollow link to your website. Basic renews each year; you can upgrade to a one-time higher tier at any time by paying only the difference, which ends the renewal.

Verified Pro ($199 one-time, lifetime)

Verified Pro is a one-time lifetime purchase with no renewal. It gives you a richer published profile so you can present your practice in more depth, it makes your firm eligible to buy News items, and, once your firm has claimed the listing and the profile is published, it grants a dofollow link to your website. In the listing order it sits above Basic. It is the plan most established firms choose because it pays once for lasting visibility and presentation.

Verified Premium ($339 one-time, lifetime)

Verified Premium is a single one-time payment described as "lifetime." It includes everything Verified Pro offers (the richer profile, News eligibility, and the dofollow link once claimed and published), and it adds the one feature reserved exclusively for this tier: the docket-verified practice check, which confirms real court activity through CourtListener. Premium also receives the highest priority in the listing order. One condition matters. The lifetime status is suspendable, without refund, if a firm is disbarred or loses its docket activity. We never want to keep promoting a firm whose standing has changed, so Premium carries that safeguard.

The News add-on

News is not a plan. It is an optional add-on priced at $75 per item, and it is available only to Pro and Premium firms. Each News item lets an eligible firm publish a piece of timely content tied to its profile. Because News is restricted to Pro and Premium, a Basic listing cannot buy it. If publishing news is part of why you are here, factor that into your plan choice from the start, since you will need at least Pro to use it.

Which plan fits which firm?

There is no single right answer, but a few patterns hold up well across the firms we see in the directory.

  • Solo practitioners and brand-new firms. Start with Basic. It is an affordable annual listing that gets you discoverable, and it can still earn verification checks as you gather your evidence. Many solos run on Basic for a while, build up approved checks, and upgrade only when the richer profile or a website link becomes worth paying for.
  • Small and growing firms. Pro is usually the sweet spot. The richer profile gives you room to describe practice areas and experience, the dofollow link supports your own website, and News lets you publish updates. Pro is a one-time lifetime purchase, so you pay once and keep it.
  • Established firms that want a permanent presence. Premium can be the better long-run value because it is a one-time payment rather than a recurring one. Over several years, the lifetime model often costs less than renewing Basic annually, and you get the top listing priority along the way.
  • Litigation-heavy practices. Premium is the natural fit, specifically because of the docket-verified practice check. If your firm is genuinely active in court, that check turns your real litigation record into an evidenced, public signal that lighter-touch firms cannot show.

The Premium-only docket-verified check, and when it is worth it

The docket-verified practice check is the headline reason firms move to Premium. It draws on CourtListener to confirm that your firm has genuine, recent court activity, and an editor confirms the match before it is approved. This carries weight precisely because it cannot be faked with marketing copy. It reflects what actually happened in the public record.

It is worth it when litigation is a real part of your work and you want prospective clients to see proof of it. If your practice is mostly transactional, advisory, or otherwise rarely generates dockets, the docket-verified check will have little to confirm. In that case you would be paying for the rest of the Premium feature set: the richer profile, News, the dofollow link, and top listing priority. Weigh Premium against Pro on those features alone and decide based on whether the one-time Pro or Premium suits you better than staying on the annual Basic.

The honesty point: verification is independent of your plan

This is the most important thing to understand about how our law firms directory works, so we state it plainly: your plan and your verification status are two separate things, and paying does not buy badges.

A Basic, Pro, or Premium label reflects the plan you are on, meaning what you paid for. It does not, by itself, mean any particular fact about your firm has been checked. The green Verified badge, earned from an approved document check, is what reflects evidence. For every check, your firm uploads proof in your account workspace, and an editor reviews that evidence and approves each check individually. No payment ever auto-verifies a check, and no payment ever auto-publishes your profile. You can read exactly how this works on our methodology page.

The practical consequence is that trust scales with the number of evidenced checks a firm passes, not with how much it spent. A Basic firm that has patiently earned several approved checks can present more verified trust than a Premium firm that has uploaded nothing. That is by design. We would rather reward firms that prove things than firms that simply pay the most, because that is what makes the directory worth trusting in the first place.

How plan tier affects listing order, but never verification

Plan tier does influence one thing: where your firm appears in a list of results. Listings are ordered first by plan tier (Premium, then Pro, then Basic), then by validated-review rating within each tier, and finally by a daily deterministic tie-break so the order is fair and stable. You can see this ordering in action whenever you browse or search the directory.

It is essential to separate this from verification. Listing order is about prominence. Verification is about proof. A higher tier moves you up the page, but it never adds a check you have not evidenced, and it never changes whether an editor has approved your proof. A Premium firm sits at the top of its results regardless of how many checks it has passed, and a Premium firm that has documented nothing shows no green Verified badge, however high it sits. The two systems run side by side and never feed into each other.

How to upgrade later

You are not locked into your first choice. Firms commonly begin on Basic, claim their listing, start earning verification checks, and upgrade to Pro or Premium once the richer profile, News eligibility, or a dofollow link becomes worthwhile. Upgrading is straightforward from your account, and any verification checks you have already earned stay with your firm. Upgrading does not reset your evidenced trust, and it does not retroactively approve anything either. The two tracks remain independent before and after you change plans.

A typical, sensible path looks like this:

  1. Claim your Basic listing and complete your firm's core information.
  2. Begin uploading evidence for verification checks and let an editor approve them one by one.
  3. Upgrade to Pro when you want a richer profile, the ability to buy News items, or a dofollow link to your website.
  4. Move to Premium when a one-time lifetime payment makes sense for you, when you want top listing priority, or, most of all, when you are litigation-active and want the docket-verified practice check.

If you have not listed your firm yet, you can begin on the submit your firm page and choose Basic, the affordable annual entry tier, to get started. Whatever tier you land on, remember the core promise of this law firms directory: your plan shapes how your firm is presented and where it ranks, while your verification, earned check by check on evidence an editor has approved, is what shows people your firm can be believed. Choose the plan that fits your presentation and budget, then build your trust the honest way, one verified check at a time.
