How to add your law firm to our directory

Getting your practice into a law firms directory should be straightforward, and it should mean something once you are in. VerifiedLawFirms.com is a verification-first law firms directory built for US firms that want a credible, lasting presence rather than a throwaway listing. This guide walks through how to add your firm: the two ways to get in (submitting your firm or claiming an existing listing), the step-by-step submit flow, what goes live right away versus what an editor reviews first, how evidence-based verification works after you are listed, and what to expect on timing. If you would rather jump straight in, you can start at /submit at any point.

Why being listed in a verified law firms directory matters

Anyone can put a name on a generic listing site. A verified law firms directory is worth your time because it sets a higher bar for everyone on it, which makes your own profile more believable to the people you actually want to reach. We are an independent directory, not a referral service, and we do not give or sell legal advice. What we do is publish firm profiles in a structured, searchable format and let firms back up specific claims with evidence that an editor has reviewed.

That independence is the point. Because we do not route leads or take a cut of your matters, a listing here reads as a neutral, third-party record of your firm rather than an advertisement we are paid to inflate. For prospective clients comparing options, and increasingly for the AI assistants and search engines that summarize those options, a profile in a curated law firms directory carries more weight than an unmoderated entry that anyone could have typed in minutes.

A few concrete benefits of being in the directory:

  • Discoverability. Your firm appears in /search and on the relevant /practice-areas pages, so people looking for your areas of work in your location can find you.
  • Credibility. Verified checks are shown in plain English on your profile, so visitors can see what has been independently confirmed instead of taking marketing copy at face value.
  • A profile you control. You manage your firm's information, attorneys, and practice areas from your account, with sensible review on the changes that matter.

Two ways to get into the directory: submit or claim

There are two routes into the law firms directory. Which one you use depends on whether your firm is already in our data.

Submitting a new firm

If your firm is not yet listed, you submit it yourself. A guest fills out the submit form, chooses a plan, and pays through Stripe Checkout. Your account is created only after that payment confirms. This order of operations is deliberate. Requiring payment before any account exists is our front-line defense against spam. Genuine firms are happy to complete a real transaction. The people who flood ordinary directories with junk listings are not willing to pay, so they never get through. Submitting is the right path for the large majority of firms reading this.

Claiming an existing listing

Some firms are already represented in the directory as unclaimed Basic listings. If you find your firm already present, you claim that existing listing instead of creating a duplicate. Claiming connects the existing profile to your new account so you can manage it, keep its information current, and decide whether to upgrade. Before you submit, it is worth running a quick search for your firm name so you take the claim route rather than creating a second entry for the same practice.

Step by step: how the submit flow works

The submit flow is designed to be completed in one sitting. Here is the full sequence and the information you will want to have ready before you begin.

  1. Gather your firm details. Have the following on hand so you are not hunting for it mid-form:
    • Firm legal name. The exact registered name of the practice, not just a marketing or trade name.
    • Location. Your primary office address, including city and state, so you appear in the right local results.
    • Practice areas. The fields of law your firm actually handles, which determine where you show up across /practice-areas.
    • Attorneys. The lawyers you want represented on the profile, with their names and roles.
    • Website. Your firm's official site.
    • Contact details. The phone number and email the firm wants associated with the listing.
  2. Open the submit form. Go to /submit and enter the details above. Accuracy matters more than polish here. An editor will look at what you provide, and a clean, truthful submission moves faster than one that needs back-and-forth.
  3. Choose a plan. Select the plan that fits your goals (the options are described in the next section). You can start on the affordable Basic tier and upgrade later by paying only the difference, so this is not a permanent commitment.
  4. Pay through Stripe Checkout. You are taken to Stripe's secure checkout to complete payment for the plan you chose. We do not handle your card details directly. Stripe does.
  5. Your account is created after payment confirms. Once Stripe confirms the payment, the submit return page completes the flow and your account is created. From there you land in your account workspace, where your submission is recorded and you can begin filling in the rest of your profile and, when you are ready, start verification.

If you ever leave the flow partway through, returning to /submit lets you pick the process back up.

Plans and pricing

The directory offers three plans, in US dollars, plus an optional news add-on. Every plan gets you a profile in the law firms directory. The differences are in features and prominence.

  • Verified Basic, $99 per year. An affordable annual listing in the directory; you can upgrade later by paying only the difference.
  • Verified Pro, $199 one-time. A one-time lifetime purchase with the enhanced profile features for firms that want a fuller presence.
  • Verified Premium, $339 one-time. A lifetime listing paid once. "Lifetime" means there is no recurring fee, though a Premium listing can be suspended if the underlying conditions for it stop being met.
  • News add-on, $75 per item. Available to Pro and Premium firms only, this lets you publish individual news items associated with your firm.

Choosing a paid plan does not, by itself, change your verification status or push anything live automatically. Plans affect features and ordering. They do not buy verification or skip editorial review. More on both of those below.

What goes live immediately versus what an editor reviews

This is the part firms most often want clarified, so it is worth being precise. Paying for a plan does not auto-publish your firm and does not auto-verify it. Nothing that is collected from other sources is ever published automatically either. After you complete the submit flow, an editor reviews your submission before the firm is published in the directory. That review is what protects the quality of the whole law firms directory, and it is the reason a listing here means more than one on a site that publishes anything instantly.

In practice, you complete payment and submission, your account exists, and your firm enters the editorial queue. The editor checks the submission, and when it meets our standards, the firm is published. Until then your profile is in progress rather than live.

How verification works after you are listed

Verification is a separate process from getting listed, and it is independent of which plan you chose. You do not earn verification by paying. You earn it by providing evidence that an editor confirms. A Basic firm and a Premium firm go through the same manual, evidence-based verification. The plan you are on does not change the standard.

The process is simple and deliberate:

  1. From your account, you work through the verification checks one at a time.
  2. For each check, you upload proof, meaning the supporting document or evidence relevant to that specific check.
  3. An editor reviews each piece of evidence and approves each check individually. Verification is granted check by check, not all at once and never automatically.

Because every check is backed by reviewed evidence, the verification status shown on your public profile is something visitors can trust. You can read more about our standards and approach on the /methodology page, and learn about the directory itself on /about.

How editing your profile works

Once your firm is listed, you keep it current from your account. Routine updates are easy to make. To keep the published directory reliable, certain critical edits are held for editor review rather than applied instantly. When you make a critical edit, your live profile keeps showing the last-approved values until an editor reviews the change. The update then takes effect on the next publish. In other words, your public profile never shows unreviewed critical changes. It shows the last good, approved version until the new one is cleared. This protects both your firm and the people relying on the listing, and it is the same principle that governs initial publication.

Where your firm appears and how listings are ordered

Your firm shows up in directory search results and on the practice-area pages that match the areas of law you entered. Within those results, listings are ordered first by plan tier, then by validated-review rating, and then by a deterministic tie-break so the order is stable and predictable. Verification status is independent of tier. Being verified is about evidence an editor has confirmed, not about how high you sit in a list. A higher-tier plan can improve your placement, but it does not grant or imply verification, and verification does not depend on what you paid.

What to expect on timing

Here is a realistic picture of the sequence:

  • Submission and payment happen in one sitting at /submit. Your account is created as soon as Stripe confirms payment.
  • Publication follows editorial review. Your firm goes live in the directory once an editor has checked the submission, not the instant you pay.
  • Verification proceeds at its own pace as you upload evidence per check and an editor approves each one. You can keep using and improving your listing while verification is underway.
  • Edits are immediate for routine fields. Critical changes wait for review and appear on the next publish, with your last-approved values shown in the meantime.

None of these steps auto-complete on payment, because that careful, human-reviewed approach is what makes inclusion in this law firms directory worth having. When you are ready to begin, head to /submit to submit your firm, or search the directory first to check whether there is an existing listing for you to claim.
