Roots and a long run in Indianapolis
The firm dates back to 1968. It was started by former Indiana Attorney General John J. Dillon, Louis F. Cohen, and other attorneys. That start gives it more than 55 years of practice in Indianapolis and across Indiana.
A history this long tells you something plain. The firm has kept its doors open through many shifts in Indiana law. In my opinion, that kind of longevity is worth noting on its own, because it points to steady work rather than a recent launch.
Focus and practice areas
The firm works across a wide set of legal fields. It lists personal injury, medical malpractice, and pharmaceutical drug and medical device litigation. It also handles class action and mass tort, sexual abuse claims, business litigation, real estate and eminent domain, appellate law, and family law.
Personal injury is a large part of the picture. The firm takes car, truck, motorcycle, and bicycle crashes, along with slip and fall cases. It also handles wrongful death and construction accident matters.
That range covers both single clients and larger group claims. A person hurt in a car wreck and a set of plaintiffs in a mass tort would both find a home here. Handling everyday injury work and class action work at one address is not a common mix.
How the team is built
The firm reports more than 30 attorneys. Several are named on the site with their focus and their schooling, which helps show how the work is divided.
Personal injury and wrongful death
Gregory L. Laker is an Equity Partner and Chair. He earned his J.D. from Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis in 1984 and was admitted in Indiana that same year. He has chaired the firm's Personal Injury Practice Group since 2002. His work covers injury to a child, sexual abuse of a child, and the death of a child, along with claims against drug and device makers.
Daniel S. Chamberlain is a Partner who finished at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1992. He focuses on personal injury, car accidents, brain injury, and wrongful death. He has served as Past Chair of the Brain Injury Association of America and of the Brain Injury Association of Indiana.
Jeffrey A. Hammond is a Partner who took his J.D. from Indiana University in 1999, after a degree from Purdue in 1995. His cases include construction accidents, construction safety, wrongful death, products liability, catastrophic injury, traumatic brain injury, and trucking accidents.
Class action, business, and appellate work
Scott D. Gilchrist is a Partner with a J.D. from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 1992. He works on antitrust, products liability, securities, and class action litigation.
Gabriel A. Hawkins is a Partner who earned his J.D., cum laude, from the same Maurer school in 2002. His practice spans real estate law, securities law, litigation, and class action and mass tort claims.
Emily D. Herrin graduated from the Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2020. She works on class action and mass tort matters for plaintiffs. Ian R. Bensberg holds a J.D. from Maurer, earned magna cum laude and with Order of the Coif, along with degrees in Classics from other schools.
Family law
Julie M. Andrews is a Partner who handles divorce and family law. She earned a B.S. from Indiana University in 1990 and a J.D. from the Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2002. Her cases include divorce, child custody, paternity, parenting time agreements, prenuptial agreements, and guardianship.
The roster also lists David J. Cutshaw, a retired former Equity Partner with 44 years of experience in business and medical malpractice work. Other attorneys, including Ian C. Ansel, Taylor E. Cody, and Laurel R.K. Gilchrist, appear on the roster as well.
Where cases are handled
The firm represents clients in both state and federal courts. It also uses negotiation and mediation to settle disputes when that path fits. A case can be filed and tried, or worked out short of trial, depending on what the client needs.
Work beyond paying clients
The firm reports that it provides pro bono services. It also reports support for community initiatives in Indianapolis. Details on those programs are limited on the pages I reviewed, so I will not stretch them further.
What the record shows
As a reviewer, I read this as a broad civil practice with deep roots in one city. The named attorneys carry Indiana law degrees, and several hold leadership titles inside their practice groups. The published facts point to a settled, mid-sized firm rather than a shop built around a single lawyer.
What the site does not publish is worth a plain word too. It does not list case results, dollar figures, or client counts on the pages we found. So a reader here learns who the attorneys are and what they handle, then can ask the firm directly for its record on a specific type of case.
