That grouping tells you a lot about the kind of matters the firm takes on. A business client with a real estate closing, a union grievance, a patent question and an estate plan can find all four inside one building. The firm handles work for companies of very different sizes, from startups through Fortune 500 businesses, and it also represents individuals.
Litigation runs through several of the attorney profiles the site publishes. In my opinion, that is the clearest signal of where the day to day work sits: commercial disputes, employment cases, appellate matters and intellectual property litigation all appear by name in the biographies.
How the team is built
The site lists attorneys by name and title, using shareholder, associate and of counsel designations. A few of those attorneys have published enough detail to give a sense of how the bench is arranged.

As a reviewer, I read that as a practical answer to a real problem for a state-focused firm. An Iowa manufacturer with a distribution dispute in another state needs local counsel there. A network membership gives the firm a first call to make.
Intellectual property and USPTO practice
Nine of the firm's professionals are registered to practise before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Registration is a separate credential from a law licence. It requires a technical or scientific background and a passing score on the patent bar examination.
That number matters for anyone weighing where to file. Only a registered practitioner can prosecute a patent application before the USPTO, which means drafting the claims, responding to office actions from an examiner and arguing over prior art. Trademark work follows a different track through the same office, with examination, publication for opposition and registration.
Intellectual property litigation shows up separately in the attorney biographies. Patent and trademark disputes generally proceed in federal district court, and appeals in patent cases go to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
What the fee structure and client mix show
The firm uses traditional hourly billing and alternative fee arrangements, set according to the situation. Alternative arrangements in commercial practice usually mean flat fees for defined pieces of work, capped fees or blended rates across a matter.
A client base that runs from startups to Fortune 500 companies puts different demands on a firm. An early-stage company generally wants entity formation, founder agreements and a first round of financing documents. Government affairs is the practice area that speaks most directly to the firm's Iowa base. Work of that kind generally involves legislative monitoring, agency rulemaking comment and administrative proceedings before state boards and commissions, all of which happen in Des Moines.
Where the record is clear and where it stops
The published attorney profiles give law school, undergraduate institution and graduation year for several shareholders, and most of those degrees come from Drake University Law School or the University of Iowa. Both are Iowa law schools, which fits a firm whose offices sit in three Iowa cities.
The About page carries a history section, though no founding year appears in the text the firm publishes there. In my opinion, the labour and employment side is the most legible part of the practice for a prospective client: Armentrout and Behaunek both name employment matters, and the firm's Employment Law Alliance membership sits alongside that work.
The firm publishes its attorney directory with titles, locations and practice descriptions attached. For a listing that turns on evidence rather than advertising copy, those biographies do the useful work: they name the schools, the years and the areas each lawyer handles.
