Pierce & Mandell, P.C. is a Boston law firm that describes itself as a boutique practice with a twenty person team. Its clients include companies of various sizes, professional practices, non-profit organisations and individuals.

That list has a clear centre of gravity. In my opinion, a reader looking at this firm should read it first as a health and professional practice shop with a solid commercial and property side attached.

Health law and the professional practices it touches

William Mandell leads the Health Law practice area. He presented a webinar for the Massachusetts Medical Society on 17 October 2025 on non-compete and other restrictive covenants as they apply to physicians.

Julie A. Niejadlik practises in health, dental and business law. Lawyer Monthly named her 2025 Health Lawyer of the Year as part of its Women in Law Awards.

Curtis B. Dooling, a shareholder, spoke at the Massachusetts Psychological Association's annual conference on 21 March 2026. His topic was ethical and legal considerations for managing patient disputes.

Three separate audiences, three separate professions: physicians, psychologists, dentists. The work these areas generate tends to be regulatory and contractual well before it is adversarial. Restrictive covenant questions, for example, usually surface when a clinician changes employers and both sides read the same paragraph differently.

How the team is built

The site names thirteen attorneys. Michael C. Fee and Dean P. Nicastro are marked retired. The remaining names are Elizabeth R. Benway, Curtis B. Dooling, Thomas E. Kenney, Robert L. Kirby, Jr., Dennis M. Lindgren, William M. Mandell, Julie A. Niejadlik, Robert R. Pierce, Lucas T. Robinson and Jacob T. Wronski.

Three paralegals are listed as well: Anthony Cusguen, Marcus Gadsden and Jessica Johnston. The firm describes its staff as trial lawyers, negotiators and business advisors.

Twenty people across twelve practice areas means most attorneys carry more than one. Niejadlik's health, dental and business mix is the one the site spells out, and it reads as typical of how a firm this size distributes work.

Titles the site does not spell out

Pierce and Mandell are identified as founding partners, Dooling as a shareholder. The site gives no title for Benway, Kenney, Kirby, Lindgren, Niejadlik, Robinson, Wronski or Zanolli, and it publishes no law school or admission year for anyone beyond the two founders.

A reader who wants seniority detail will need to ask the firm directly. That gap is common on boutique sites and it says nothing about the lawyers themselves.

Where the firm came from

Robert Pierce and William Mandell founded the firm in 1995. They met at Boston College Law School and later worked together as associates at the Boston firm Widett, Slater & Goldman.

The firm moved to 11 Beacon Street in 1997 and has stayed there since. The building housed B.C. Law School from 1929 to 1937, which gives the address a personal echo for both founders.

Thirty-one years under the same two founding names is a fact worth stating plainly. As a reviewer, I treat continuity of that length as one of the more reliable signals available in a directory listing. It tells a prospective client that the people who set the firm's approach are still around to be held to it.

The commercial and property side

Business law, business litigation, intellectual property, real estate, and land use and zoning make up the second half of the firm's work. Insurance defense, employment law, personal injury and probate and fiduciary litigation round out the list.

Land use and zoning is a Massachusetts-specific practice in ways that are easy to underestimate. Permit applications go before local boards, and a denial is typically appealed to Land Court or Superior Court under a statutory clock measured in days. The lawyer's job often begins at the hearing stage, long before any court sees the file.

Real estate litigation in the same market brings title disputes, purchase and sale disagreements, and lease conflicts. These matters run on documents: recorded deeds, surveys, condominium master deeds. The record either supports a claim or it does not, and much of the early work is assembling it.

Business litigation and intellectual property

Business litigation covers contract disputes, shareholder and partnership disagreements, and claims under the Massachusetts consumer protection statute, chapter 93A, which carries multiple damages and fee-shifting. That statute changes the arithmetic of settlement in a way out-of-state clients sometimes do not expect.

Intellectual property at a firm of this size generally means trademark filings, licensing agreements, trade secret disputes and infringement claims. Federal trademark work runs through the USPTO on published timelines, while trade secret claims move in court and often start with an injunction request.

What sits outside the billable work

Pierce & Mandell founded and supports the Eddie & Alyce Mandell Memorial Scholarship Fund. It awards annual college scholarships to graduates of Boston Public Schools.

What the record shows

The verifiable material here is specific and dated. Two founders, both still named, from 1995. A single address since 1997. A twenty person team, thirteen named attorneys, three named paralegals. Three public appearances or recognitions across 2025 and 2026, all in health-adjacent work.

What the site does not publish is equally clear: no case outcomes, no settlement figures, no client lists. In my opinion that reticence is unremarkable for a firm whose health law clients are individual clinicians and medical practices with confidentiality obligations of their own.

A prospective client evaluating Pierce & Mandell has enough to work with. The health law leadership is named, the recognition is attributable to a named publication and year, and the speaking engagements can be checked against the Massachusetts Medical Society and the Massachusetts Psychological Association. Boston Public School graduates receive scholarships from the fund the firm established.
