Roots that go back to 1895

The practice dates its start to June 17, 1895, when George A. Bacon opened a firm in Springfield, Massachusetts. His focus then was corporate and business law. That founding year puts the firm's origins in the nineteenth century, and it marked its 130th anniversary in 2025.

The Wilson half of the name came later. Peter Wilson began his own practice in 1945, built around real estate and probate work. The two firms stayed separate for decades. They joined in 1979 to form a single firm of twelve lawyers, and that is how the Bacon Wilson name came together.

Growth through mergers

The firm did not stay at twelve lawyers. It grew in part by combining with smaller practices in nearby towns. In 2005 it merged with Morse and Sacks in Northampton. A year later, in 2006, it merged with Monsein and MacConnell in Amherst.

Those moves added offices in each town. Today the firm lists its main Springfield office alongside branches in Northampton, Westfield, and Amherst. It reports employing roughly one hundred people, a sizeable count for a regional practice. Jeffrey I. Fialky serves as managing shareholder.

What the firm handles

Bacon Wilson works across a wide set of practice areas. On the personal side, it lists accidents and injuries, estate planning, long-term care planning, end of life matters, home ownership and real estate, and marriage, divorce, and family law. Criminal law and bankruptcy also appear.

The business side reflects the firm's original 1895 focus. It covers business and corporate law, business ownership, employment, litigation, and municipal law. There is also a cannabis business services group, which points to work tied to a newer area of Massachusetts commerce.

What that range means for a client

As a reviewer, I read that spread as a general-practice firm rather than a narrow one. A client with a home closing, a will, and a small company could, in theory, keep all three matters under one roof. That setup suits people who prefer to stay with one firm across the arc of a life or a business. It also fits the municipal work, since towns often need help on several fronts at once.

How the team is built

The attorney roster uses clear titles: shareholders, associates, of counsel, and retired members. Shareholders hold ownership stakes, so that group tends to carry the longer-tenured lawyers. Associates sit earlier in their careers. The mix points to a structure where senior lawyers supervise and newer ones build up their practice.

Named shareholders include Kenneth J. Albano, a past managing shareholder, along with Gina M. Barry, Mark J. Beglane, Jonathan A. Breton, Benjamin M. Coyle, Julie A. Dialessi-Lafley, and Melissa R. Gillis. Hyman G. Darling is listed as shareholder emeritus, and Jeffrey I. Fialky as managing shareholder. Conor P. Carey and Sarah C. Federation appear as associates, with Teresa E. Dupere as real estate and title counsel.

The site lists these names and titles without full biographies. I cannot speak to their individual backgrounds or school histories, because the firm does not publish them on the pages we reviewed. In my opinion, a short bio for each attorney would help prospective clients, though the titles alone give a fair sense of seniority.

Reach across the region

The four offices sit in a cluster of Western Massachusetts cities and towns: Springfield, Northampton, Westfield, and Amherst. The firm describes serving clients across Western Massachusetts and into Northern Connecticut. That footprint fits a practice built to cover a defined region rather than chase a national reach.

A Spanish-language phone line appears in the site's header, which signals the firm expects to work with Spanish-speaking clients. For a service area that includes a city like Springfield, that is a practical touch. It also suggests the firm has thought about who walks through its doors.

A reviewer's read

What stands out here is longevity paired with breadth. A firm does not reach 130 years by accident, and the steady mergers show a practice that chose to grow rather than stay small. The list of practice areas backs that up, moving from injury and family matters through to corporate and municipal work.

The gaps are mostly in what the site chooses to show the public. There are no attorney bios, no published case histories, and no listed honors on the pages we checked. A prospective client will likely want a first conversation to fill in those details, including who would handle a given matter and how the fee arrangement works. For a general-practice firm with deep local roots and four offices across the region, that starting point is a reasonable one.
