Focus and practice areas

The firm runs a full-service practice out of Morton, Pennsylvania, and takes clients across Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Weisberg Law has operated since 2005. A large share of its work sits on the commercial and financial side: commercial collections, insurance subrogation, bankruptcy litigation, and business disputes. Fraud claims, legal malpractice, and professional license defense fill out that commercial focus.

Real estate litigation is a named area with several strands inside it. The firm lists construction defect disputes, commercial real estate, and questions of ownership, boundary, land use, and tax sale. Its wider menu adds appeals, civil litigation, employment law, and family law. In my opinion, that spread points to a firm comfortable on both sides of a courtroom. It represents businesses and creditors in money disputes, and it takes up claims that individuals bring against institutions. Where the team works

Weisberg Law keeps three Pennsylvania offices. The main location is in Morton, with further offices in Bala Cynwyd and in Philadelphia, the last of these open by appointment. That footprint keeps the firm near the Philadelphia suburbs while giving it a city presence for clients who need one.

How the practice is led

Matthew B. Weisberg is the Owner/CEO and lead trial counsel. He earned his J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University in 2000. That same year he was admitted to the state and federal courts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. His own practice centers on financial injury litigation: business disputes, legal malpractice, and real estate litigation that takes in mortgage foreclosure.

Weisberg also represents individuals, among them attorneys, in disciplinary matters. He has been retained to give evidence in legal malpractice and title insurance cases. As a reviewer, I read that mix as a lawyer who handles the technical corners of the profession itself, including license defense and questions of professional standards.

What the courtroom record shows

Two appellate appearances appear on the attorney page. Weisberg has argued before the United States Supreme Court in Rotkiske v. Klemm, and before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in Clark v. Stover. Reaching either bench is uncommon for a practicing lawyer, and reaching the nation's highest court is rarer still.

Both are named cases with public records behind them, and both sit inside the firm's stated focus on litigation. Appellate work of this kind asks a lawyer to argue points of law before judges who set precedent for others, which puts heavy weight on written briefs and oral argument. For a client weighing who to hire, a documented appearance at that level is a concrete data point.

Beyond its lead counsel, Weisberg Law names several attorneys across its offices. Gary Schafkopf holds the title of Chairman. David A. Berlin is a Partner. L. Anthony DiJiacomo III is the Managing Partner for the Morton office, and Yanna Panagopoulos is the Managing Partner in Bala Cynwyd. Lisa Claire is listed as an Attorney, and Jun Ma as an Associate.

That structure gives the firm a designated managing partner at two of its offices and a mix of partners, associates, and other counsel. The firm states that its attorneys have worked in the legal field for over 20 years. For a client, a managing partner tied to a specific office is a clear point of contact for matters handled from that location.

What certain matters involve

Several of the firm's areas follow set procedures, which helps a client know what to expect. A legal malpractice claim asks the client to show that a prior lawyer's error caused a real loss, which often means proving the case within the case. Commercial collection work moves through demand, suit, judgment, and enforcement against assets. Insurance subrogation lets an insurer step into the shoes of the party it paid and pursue whoever caused the loss.
