The firm represents injured and disabled workers across New York and Long Island. Its full legal name is McIntyre, Donohue, Accardi, Salmonson & Riordan, LLP, shortened to MDASR, LLP. The work centers on benefits claims for people whose income depends on a decision going their way. Its name has changed over the years. The firm was once known as Sherman, Federman, Sambur and McIntyre LLP. It took its current name in January 2016. The site marks the beginning as the 1930s and gives a decade for that start, so a single founding year is not stated.

How the team is built

MDASR reports 12 full-time attorneys, a licensed Claimant's Representative, additional attorneys of counsel, and more than 35 paralegal and support staff. Five surnames in the firm name belong to current partners.

Edward T. McIntyre started at the firm in 1997 and became a partner in 2001. Richard W. Donohue joined in 1999 and made partner in 2004. James J. Accardi arrived in 2000 and reached partnership in 2004. Scott Salmonson has worked at the firm since 2005 and became a partner in 2011. Sean Riordan started in 2009 and made partner in 2013.

Three more partners fill out the group. James Seganti joined in 2012 and became a partner in 2018. Tim Finnegan has worked at the firm since 2016 and made partner in 2025. Chet Lukaszewski ran a solo practice from 2008 and joined MDASR as a partner in 2025.

What the compensation work involves

Workers' compensation covers injury or illness caused by employment, and the firm's practice reaches contested and denied claims. In New York, these cases run through the Workers' Compensation Board. A claim begins with a filing and medical reports. When an insurer disputes it, the matter goes before a workers' compensation law judge at a hearing.

As a reviewer, I read the firm's attention to denied claims as a sign that much of the work happens at the dispute stage. Deadlines are strict there, and medical evidence has to line up with the legal standard. A worker who misses a filing window can lose a valid claim, so timing matters as much as the injury itself.

The firm also handles Volunteer Firefighters' Benefits and Volunteer Ambulance Workers' Benefits. New York runs separate benefit laws for volunteers hurt while serving. Handling those next to standard compensation cases keeps first responders' claims in the same office.

How disability and pension claims proceed

Social Security Disability follows a separate federal track. Many first applications get turned down, and the appeal moves through reconsideration and then a hearing before an administrative law judge. SSDI also sets rules on work history and earnings before a claim can qualify, so the paperwork tends to be heavy.

Municipal disability pensions add a third route. NYCERS handles retirement and disability benefits for many New York City public workers, and a disability pension turns on medical proof that the job can no longer be done. These petitions go before a review process run by the pension system.

The firm works across all three tracks. That range lets one office follow a client whose situation touches more than one benefit program at the same time. A public employee hurt on the job might have a compensation claim and a pension question running together.

MDASR works out of several locations around the New York area. Bay Shore and Riverhead sit in Suffolk County. Garden City covers Nassau County. The firm also keeps offices in Manhattan and White Plains, and it serves the Bronx and Queens. In my opinion, that spread suits benefits work, since hearings tend to happen near where a worker lives or was hurt.

The firm's own site is the source for its history and its attorneys, along with the practice areas it names. It lists each partner with the year they joined and made partner. It gives a staff count and names the benefit programs the firm works in.

The account holds together. A firm that began in Bay Shore in the 1930s now carries eight named partners and covers compensation, Social Security, and municipal disability benefits. The current name and structure date to January 2016.
